Name: Universite de Nantes
Region: Europe - France

Description:
The University was founded in 1970 under the 1968 law reforming higher education and replaced the former University of Nantes. Incorporating previously existing faculties, the latter was founded in 1962 but traces back to the original University of Nantes which was founded by Papal Bull in 1460 and recognised and authorised by Charles V in 1364. The University operates under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education and is financed by the State.

In collaboration with the Universities of Tours, Rennes II, Paris X, Paris VIII and XII, the University of Nantes has developed European distance learning programmes which are broadcast via both the Eutelsat and TV5-UNISAT.

Topics covered include: French Literature, communication, education, business and preparation for the University Diploma Entry Special Examination (DAEU).

Equivalent to the French baccalaureat, the University offers the DAEU (Diplome d'acces aux Etudes Universitaires) which is an examination for entry to University. Students may follow one of two types, choosing a maximum of four subjects in either: DAEU A (covering French Literature, English, History, Geography, Law, Mathematics and Computing) and DAEU B (covering French, Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology and Computing).
